St. George’s, March 18, 2011 (GIS) – The parties involved in Phase 2 of the Agriculture Feeder Roads’ Project are finalising the contract that would allow work to start.
The Grenada Government project, under which work will be done on 14 roads, is funded by the Kuwait Fund for Economic Development and the OPEC Fund.
The contractors are Consolidated Construction Company (CCC), with Bryan Constantine as the lead consultant. He is Regional Manager of DIWI Consult International, which provides technical assistance and project management for roads, bridges, airports and other major construction projects worldwide.
“We now have a draft contract with CCC which we are in the final stages of putting together,’’ Mr. Constantine told the Government Information Service in an interview Thursday.
“On the assumption that a contract is signed this month,’’ he said, “the contractor has a month to be able to mobilize. So we are very hopeful that work would be able to start at the beginning of May, immediately after Easter.’’
About EC$43 million will be spent on 11 miles of roads, “most of them related to reopening roads for agricultural purposes,’’ Mr. Constantine said.
Joseph Gilbert, Minister of Works and Physical Development, said the Feeder Roads’ Project would have significant economic benefit for the country.
“It would make a big difference. It’s a major injection of capital in the economy,’’ Minister Gilbert said.
At least 300 workers are expected to find employment when the Feeder Roads’ Project begins.
