A Cuban team of engineers from the Heritage and Architectural Bureau of the Historians Office of Havana, Cuba who did the drawings for the restoration of York House and the Governor General’s Residence came to the end of their stint at the Ministry of Works on Friday. The team was engaged at the Ministry for a period of one month where they made presentations of their designs to the Governor General, the Cabinet, Ministry of Works Officials, Physical Planning and the Willie Redhead Foundation. In light of the significant damage that was done to the York House and the Governor General’s Residence, restoration of these buildings have been placed first on the priority list for rehabilitation by the Ministry of Works for 2008. Reports were submitted to the Ministry of Works and suggestions were made for the immediate preservation of the two buildings. Minister for Communications, Works and Transport Sen. the Hon. Brenda Hood expressed her satisfaction to see that work has started in preparation to have the buildings restored. The Ministry of Works thanks the Cuban embassy and the Government of Cuba for its assistance and cooperation with the project. .
