St. Georges, Grenada, 19th July 2014: On Saturday 19th July, friends, family and staff of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, participated in a special cancer awareness fundraising walk, aptly dubbed ‘Walk with Us’, which was arranged by CIBC FirstCaribbean Grenada.
The route which ran from Mt. Gay to Grand Etang, is but one of the various fundraising activities planned by the bank to garner support for, and raise awareness of the many cancers affecting our society. On Sunday October 5th 2014, a larger regional walk will be held across the 17 territories where CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank operates. It will coincide with parent company CIBC’s annual ‘Run for the Cure’ held in Canada, coordinated by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
CIBC is now in its 18th year as title sponsor of ‘Run for the Cure’ which continues to enjoy phenomenal participation from 64 communities in Canada, in addition to regional participation coordinated by CIBC FirstCaribbean.
Last year, over $100,000.00USD was raised across the islands where CIBC FirstCaribbean operates. The monies raised were donated to various organizations responsible for cancer awareness and/or the treatment of cancer across the region, including the Grenada Cancer Society.
Commenting on the walk and the bank’s future activities, Nigel Ollivierre, Country Manager said “Cancer is a pandemic that affects us all. This is an issue that bank staff is very passionate about. A number of us have either had family members who had cancer, or know someone who was affected by it.”
“As we plan our activities, we will always seek ways to actively involve the public in a meaningful way.” He further noted.
The CIBC FirstCaribbean welcomes participation from the public through participation in events and donation to the ‘Walk for the Cure’ cancer fund which can be made directly into account #106987707 held with CIBC FirstCaribbean.
