St. George, October 26th, 2010, Grenada has been invited to a Technical Working Group meeting on Market Access, Service and Investment from the 25-29 October, 2010 in Barbados. Grenada will be represented by Kahlil Lewis- Smith, Senior Trade Officer at the Ministry of Environment, Foreign Trade and Export Development and Mrs. Sonia Roden, General Manager of Grenada Industrial Development Corporation.
At this meeting, the Technical Working Group on Market Access is expected to finalise the CARICOM Draft Text on Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures (SPS) and Technical Barriers to Trade to be submitted to the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) for approval as the initial CARICOM Draft Text.
The matters down for discussion include the CARICOM Draft initial tariff offer to Canada based on the submission from Member States, and recommendation for further negotiating instructions in all areas of Market Access for the approval of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED).
Members of the Technical Working Group on Service and Investment is also expected to finalise the Draft Text on Trade in Services, facilitation of business persons and investments (including Development co-operation provision) prepared by the Office of Trade Negotiations (OTN). These Drafts will be submitted to the Council for Trade and Economic Development for approval. Further instructions are also being sought on other Service sector and E-Commerce
This meeting will seek approval from the Member State on the revised Text on Market Access, Services and Investments of the Office of Trade Negotiations (OTN). CARICOM has initiated negotiations with Canada for a new Trade and Development Agreement..
