Money Missing At Grenada Postal Corp

By ‘D’ Third EYE, CAMS News Line……

St. George’s, GRENADA: EC $719,103 cannot be accounted for at the Grenada Postal Corporation.

The Post Office’s Map Cash Debit System has had over EC $120,000.00 dollars by an employee, the other theft and fraudulent issues involving Post Office workers (almost $80 thousand) which is under police investigation.

The annual financial statement for the year ending 31st December 2007 was recently laid before the House of Representatives in Parliament, by the accounting firm W.R. Agostini,  F.C.C.A  Chartered Certified Accountant.

The Accounting firm says the Universal Postal Union is owed EC$614,000. 00. They also say that they “have not been able to obtain direct conformation of the amount due to the Government of Grenada amounting to $719,103. This amount represents customs duties and other imposts collected by the cooperation on behalf of the Government

CAMS News Line understands the post office is claiming it has no money to pay the Universal Postal Union and it’s not its responsibility. An inside source said the Treasury is a bit callous – the Government are the one’s who should account for the missing $719,103 dollars – and they are the one’s who have to pay – not the Post Office.

A source close to the ex- board said, the new Government will have to decide whether the Postal Cooperation is there to provide a ‘service’ to Grenadians or just a ‘money making’ machine. He added, you may be surprised to learn this from me but the Post Office’s main income is stamps – $3,712,123.00 in 2007, was cut of by our regime. He said look at how we closed the Post Office in Paraclete I doubt by next year there will be something call the Grenada Postal Cooperation.
