Whistle stops story

St. George’s, Grenada (June 10, 2008) The National Democratic Congress, in a push to reach all Grenadians in the run up to the July 8 general elections, conducted a whistle stop tour last Saturday, June 7.

All NDC candidates, led by party boss Tillman Thomas, were involved in the exercise which started just after 9 a.m. from the Port Highway.  A convoy of vehicles drove through the streets, making a first stop in and around the St. George’s Market Square.  The candidates and their supporters made similar stops along a west coast route, culminating in Grenville.

At each stop, the candidates were greeted by well-wishers, who offered suggestions and compliments to the NDC team.  The candidates also used the occasion to further explain and reiterate the NDC’s plan for rebuilding Grenada following what’s expected to be a majority win for the party on July 8.

“The response we received on Saturday in the various communities, from St. George’s through to St. Andrew’s, reconfirmed to us that Grenadians overwhelming want change and they are looking to the NDC to form the next government of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique,” Thomas said.

An open-back truck with a sound system accompanied the convoy, blasting a series of NDC songs specially composed for the election.
Three new NDC election songs were released on Saturday: “We Want A Change” and “Let’s Go to Church” by Phat Trax and Munroe’s “None Ah Dem.”  The NDC has already been using four other tunes: “Voting Yellow” by Puppa Lindi; “Enough is Enough” by General Pippi; “Vote for NDC” by Rags; and Soca Banton’s “Yellow in the Air.”
The NDC began its weekend political activities on Friday when former party leader and Prime Minister, George Brizan, joined Nazim Burke on the hustings.
Brizan publicly endorsed Burke, who is seeking re-election in St. George North-East, at a constituency meeting in Boca.
