The West Indies team is certainly looking like a well-oiled machine waiting to be turned on. It was not difficult to discern the great spirit of camaraderie and togetherness as they practiced at the Wanderers Cricket Ground today. What is abundantly clear is that they have gelled tremendously as a team during the time they have spent at the Training Camp in Barbados. Indeed, they have formed themselves into a formidable unit of players and management. This feeling of oneness was echoed by the captain, Steven Katwaroo, who confirmed that all activities were being done together with the team “looking out for one another like a family”. He further commented that the team had performed much better in the second Practice Match because each player had worked tirelessly for the other. In that game, which was played on Wednesday April 16th the W.I. team amassed a total of 263 for 9 wickets with a top-score of 61coming from Kyle Myers. Other decent scores came from Akeem Saunders, Kaverm Hodge, Steven Katwaroo and Derone Davis who made 33, 28, 28 and 26 respectively. In reply, their opponents from the Alexandra Secondary School were routed for 181 with Donovan Nelson taking 4/32 and Kaverm Hodge taking three (3) wickets. The other wickets went by the run out route. Another key player on the team, Kraigg Brathwaite, was also excited at the prospect of realizing his dream of playing for the West Indies. This prolific young batsman, who has already amassed 28 centuries between 2003 an 2008, is looking forward in anticipation to the start of the tournament. His intention is to take full advantage of the situation and make his name become well-known in the region. In his words,” I will just have to concentrate and do what I have to do.” For his part Katwaroo, who is also the wicket-keeper of the team, is confident and ready to win the CLICO International U15 Cricket Championships set to begin on Saturday April 19th. .
