SECOND SUCCESSFUL NATIONAL YOUTH PRAYER SERVICE HELD

On Sunday 9th March, the Department of Youth Development under the theme “Get High with Jesus- Get Radical in Jesus”, hosted its second National Youth Prayer Service at the La Poterie Playing Field, La Poterie, St. Andrew.   Among those gathered were Prime Minister Dr. the rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture Hon. Gregory Bowen, Parliamentary Representative for the area and Minister for Sport, Hon. Roland Bhola, Minister for Economic Affairs, Hon. Anthony Boatswain, Minister for Youth Development, Sen. the Hon. Emmalin Pierre, Minister for Works, Sen. the Hon. Brenda Hood, Minister for Health and Ecclesiastical Affairs, Sen. Ann David Antoine, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Sen. Carl Caton, representatives of the islands various religious denominations as well over two thousand youth from throughout the island. Parliamentary Representative for St.Andrew’s North East, Hon Roland Bhola officially welcomed those gathered to the prayer service. Minister Bhola stated that he was pleased have the activity hosted in his constituency and urged all those present to fully partake in the evenings activities. Prime Minister Mitchell in his remarks expressed that Government is gravely concerned about the nations’ youth, but also emphasized that there is hope. He stated that the opportunities for young people are diverse and that they should make full use of training provided by the Department of Youth, Ministry of Education through GTEP and other Ministries. Prime Minister Mitchell said that prayer is of great importance and the Religious communities have to be complimented on their many sacrifices made to assist the youth of Grenada.    Sen. the Hon. Ann David Antoine, re-emphasized that there is great hope for the nation. She also stated that there is beauty in everyone and the environment. She encouraged the youth that even though they may feel frustrated, sad, uneasy, low in spirit, there are people who care and are willing to assist in whatever way possible.  Sen. the Hon. Emmalin Pierre, Minister of Youth Development in her remarks encouraged the parents and elders of the nation to step up and be responsible and discipline their children with love.  Minister Pierre stated: “Every child is a gift from God and they are special”The Youth Minister also stated:“Once the people of our nation realize that they need to trust in God, good will always triumph over evil. We should avoid looking at others and question ourselves as to the contributions that we have made instead of worrying about others.”The evenings’ proceedings included various denominations providing prayers for the many issues affecting the nations youth such as: ‘Youth and drug addiction, HIV and AIDS, Sexual abuse, renewal of community spirit etc.   The sermon was delivered by Evangelist Daryl Edwards from Trinidad and Tobago. The motivational word was delivered by Apostle Anthony Yarde from Barbados. While a testimony on living with HIV/AIDS was delivered by Mr. Errol Romain. Various performing acts included Angelic Voices, Ms. Shirley Ann Andrews, Aquartet, Ms. Lovina Hinds, Victorious Brothers and the Pearls Church of God Youth Ministry.The service climaxed with a candle light procession and commitment session which was led by Pastor Edwin Abraham.  The Department deems their “National Youth Prayer Service” a huge success and extends sincere gratitude to those who have participated or contributed in any way possible towards this most meaningful activity..
