Primary School students who would not have passed their 12th birthday by October 2008, are invited to participate in the 16th Annual Conde’ Nast Traveler “My Caribbean” Essay Contest.
Every year, the Grenada Board of Tourism teams up with Conde’ Nast Traveler and the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) to enable Grenadian students to participate in this competition. For 2008, children are invited to write and submit an essay of between 250 and 500 words on the topic “If you could share a secret about your island with someone visiting for the first time, what would it be?”
The “My Caribbean” Essay Contest is designed to introduce the benefits of tourism to the children of the Caribbean, as well as to broaden their spectrum of life’s opportunities. One student from each Caribbean island will be selected and invited with a chaperone to attend the October CTO Conference. A grand-prize winner will receive a US$2,000.00 award and have his or her essay published in a future issue of the Conde’ Nast Traveler Magazine. Two runners-up will also each receive a US$500 award.
In the 2007 competition, Kazell Banfield of the Birchgrove R.C. School was Grenada’s finalist. She and her chaperone attended the CTC event in Puerto Rico.
The Grenada Board of Tourism is encouraging the participation of all primary schools in this competition. The deadline to submit all entries to the GBT is Friday May 16, 2008.
