“Old’’ men defeat “young’’ men in Old Trafford football

St. George’s, September 18, 2011 – Goals by Richard Cherebin and Leon John allowed a Carenage team of players 40 years and older to beat a squad of much young players 2-1 in a weekend encounter at Old Trafford in Tanteen.

A moderate crowd of spectators witnessed the game that featured several former players of Grenada’s national junior and senior teams.

“We were grateful for the support of all spectators, including MP for the Town of St. George, Honourable Peter David,’’ said Claudius Monah, captain of the 40+ team. “This coming Saturday, September 24, coach Jeffrey Depradine will bring together some of the best young players under the age of 10 to exhibit their skills at Old Trafford. We ask the public to come out and cheer on the kids.’’

The next 40+ game, which will be in October, is expected to be a clash of old Grenada Football Association rivals – Queen’s Park Rangers and Carenage.

Meanwhile, Cricket Sunday returns to Old Trafford on September 25 with competition among teams from the St. George’s area. It will be an all-day event with the sale of eats and drinks.
