Grenada’s’ performance in Boxing Tournament

OECS Bantamweight Champion Kandel Dowden suffered his first defeat outside of Grenada when he was stopped in the first round by Ricardo Blackman Jr. of Barbados in last weekend Boxing Tournament in Barbados Christopher Karim De Allie in his first bout outside of the Spice Isle gave a good account of himself in a spirited performance against to the more experienced Adrian Bisscette of Barbados. De Allie lost in the third and final round.  However, the boxer winning Gold for Grenada was Akim Ron Small. Small a 16 year old student of GBSS in his first overseas bout, showed superiors skills and stamina as he out- punched his Barbadian counterpart in all 3 rounds to lift the Gold trophy in the Junior Welter-weight category.  All three boxers were coached by Shayne “BigJoe” Joseph of Body image Gym. The tournament which included Senior Boxers from Barbados and Puerto Rico was sponsored by the Amateur Boxing Association of Barbados and sanctioned by the Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association.   The Tournament took place last Saturday April 19th at the Springer Memorial School, St. Michael Barbados and was attend by President of Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association Ralph  A. James.
